“This House Would Prioritise Public Safety Over the Right to Strike”

Voice General Secretary Deborah Lawson was one of the “Speakers in Proposition” in the debate at the Oxford Union on 18 February 2016.

Voice’s belief in  “the force of argument, not the argument of force” was most appropriate for a debate at the Oxford Union.

Deborah Lawson commented:

“Very interesting and enjoyable evening participating in a debate at the Oxford Union. The motion discussed was prioritising public safety over the right to strike. There was a really good variety of relevant aspects raised and discussed.

“This made for a good and lively debate, even if it was dominated by the current dispute between the junior doctors and the Government .

“It provided an opportunity to remind those present that without teachers there would be no universities – or students to attend them or indeed doctors, nurses and other professionals.”
