The impact of inspections and lack of support

25 Apr

Voice Scotland has warned of the impact on school staff and pupils of both school inspections and wider government and council decisions.

The union’s concerns are highlighted in the Argyllshire Advertiser, which reports that Voice Scotland

“raised concerns about the ‘trickle down’ impact of government and council decisions on head teachers, school staff and children”.

Senior Professional Officer Jennifer Barnes commented:

“All school staff are committed to doing the best they can for their children.

“Reductions in support from education officers to head teachers can leave them feeling undervalued and overwhelmed with work, impacting on a school and its pupils.

“Negative inspection reports can affect the morale, confidence and support of school staff, especially when the issues are outwith their personal control.”
