Video: Nannies – what would you do if you were in trouble at work?

14 Feb

Video interview with Senior Professional Officer (Early Years and Childcare) Tricia Pritchard about nannies and the services that Voice provides.

“As a nanny, why should I join Voice?”

“Voice is the only union nannies can join.  We are the only union supporting nannies and offering representation.

Working alone, nannies can often be vulnerable and taken advantage of….”

“…What other benefits would nannies receive?”

“That’s the main benefit that nannies join for – that personal representation, that personal support… We are there for them when they need us.

“There are other benefits and they can access them by looking at www.voicetheunion.org.uk/nannies.”

The following is an extract from a letter from a nanny member in the January 2015 issue of “Your Voice”, the members’ magazine:

“‘Thank you for the help and support you have given me, it was invaluable’

“Voice is a lifesaver – you are on the nanny’s side, you know the law, you have authority, you have knowledge and you care. Professional nannies, who want to do a good job, need you.

“Whenever I have phoned with a question about my membership or for contract information, there was always someone who could help me.

“I had always thought Voice was there just for serious problems, and would not have contacted you unless it was urgent. When I realised I did need support, I was very impressed when you understood, and came immediately for the meeting with my employer.

“Her response when she realised I was not alone and vulnerable showed me just how important it is to have a strong, informed official colleague who can speak on my behalf. Nannies are often on their own otherwise.”

“I hope that all professional nannies find you and the support they need.”
